Florida Driver's License Exam Now Offered Online

Orlando, FL: Good news for those getting a first time driver's license in the State of Florida — Instead of standing in line for hours at the local driver's license office, a new online testing program in Florida lets new drivers take their driver's license exam over the Internet using their computer.

The new testing program, the first of its kind in Florida , is certified by the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles and is available statewide from the American Safety Council's www.FirstTimeDriver.com website.

"We are now able to help thousands of people across Florida who want to save time and avoid long lines at their local driver's license office," says Bob Proechel , president of the American Safety Council, the organization that spearheaded development of the new program. "Teen drivers have been quick to take advantage of the online testing," says Proechel. "Computers and the Internet are second nature to this generation," he says. "The online driver's license exam is a natural extension of our use of technology for education and training purposes. It's an innovative way we are meeting the demand in Florida for services that save time and offer convenience for consumers," Proechel says. "Teen drivers love the new program," Proechel says, "but we are also getting an enthusiastic response from their parents."

"This pilot program represents a positive partnership with the private sector," says Sandra Lambert, Director of the Division of Driver Licenses at the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles. "Online testing is a convenience for those who use it and, because it reduces crowding in our offices, also for those whose needs require an office visit. By ensuring that new drivers have an understanding of the rules of the road, it is also a welcome asset in our educational efforts to
promote highway safety," say Lambert.

If you have never held a regular driver's license in any state, you must complete a Traffic Law and Substance Abuse Education (First Time Driver) course before applying for a driving permit in the State of Florida. Now, once you take and complete the online course at www.FirstTimeDriver.com you have the option of taking your driver's license exam online at the end of the course. The cost for the online exam is $19.95.

The American Safety Council and its affiliated organizations have provided educational courses, traffic safety training, and professional continuing education in association with state regulatory agencies and court systems for more than ten years. The organization was the first to be approved by the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles to offer traffic school courses in an interactive fashion over the Internet and is the state's leading traffic school provider. Approximately 250,000 teens each year get their first time driver's license in the State of Florida and are now eligible to take advantage of the new online testing program.
